Indian SMEs can now access unsecured business loans up to ₹50 lakh in 48 hours. Here’s exactly how to qualify, which NBFCs are best, and what hurts your approval chances.

In this article
If you run an SME in India with 12+ months of GST returns, you can now borrow up to ₹50 lakh without collateral — often disbursed within 48 hours. Here’s the practical 2026 guide to unsecured business loans, who lends them, and how to maximise your chances.
Who gives unsecured business loans up to ₹50L?
| Lender | Max Amount | Rate | Tenure |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lendingkart | ₹2 Cr | 1.5–2.5%/mo | 1–36 mo |
| FlexiLoans | ₹1 Cr | 1.0–2.5%/mo | 1–36 mo |
| Indifi | ₹50L | 1.5–3.0%/mo | 1–36 mo |
| NeoGrowth | ₹75L | 18–28% p.a. | 3–36 mo |
| HDFC Bank SME Loan | ₹50L | 13–18% p.a. | 12–48 mo |
| ICICI Insta Biz Loan | ₹50L | 12–19% p.a. | 12–48 mo |
Eligibility — what every lender checks
- Business vintage: 12 months minimum (24+ months for the lowest rates)
- Minimum turnover: ₹40 lakh annually (some go as low as ₹25L for retail)
- GST returns: Last 12 months filed, no defaults
- Owner CIBIL: 700+ (750+ for the best rates)
- Profit: Net profit for the last 2 financial years
- No active loan defaults
Documents you’ll need
- PAN of the business and the owner
- Aadhaar of the owner
- GST registration certificate and last 12 months of GSTR-3B
- Last 2 years ITR + audited financials
- Last 12 months current account bank statement
- KYC of directors / partners (for Pvt Ltd / LLP)
How to get approved at the lowest rate
- Apply where your current account is. HDFC, ICICI and Axis pre-approve SME customers based on account behaviour — same-day disbursal possible.
- Improve your business banking score. Maintain a higher month-end balance, avoid bounced cheques, keep utilisation healthy.
- Bundle GST + ITR + bank statements via Account Aggregator. Cleaner data → faster approval → better rate.
- Choose monthly EMI, not weekly EMI products. Daily/weekly EMI products from NBFCs often work out 4–6% more expensive on an APR basis.
The real cost: APR vs flat rate
NBFCs love to quote “1.5% per month” — sounds tiny, but on a reducing-balance basis it’s actually ~32% APR. Banks quote on a reducing-balance basis already (13–18% APR). Always convert to APR before comparing.
Red flags — lenders to avoid
- “Guaranteed approval” ads — legitimate lenders never guarantee.
- Upfront fees before sanction — classic scam.
- Lenders not registered with RBI or SEBI — verify on the RBI website.
- WhatsApp or social-media-only lenders — high default rates, fast harassment.
Types of unsecured business loans
“Business loan” covers several products. A term loan gives a lump sum repaid over a fixed period — best for expansion or equipment. Working-capital loans and cash-credit lines fund day-to-day operations and let you draw only what you need. Invoice discounting advances cash against unpaid invoices. A merchant cash advance lets retailers repay as a slice of daily card sales. Match the product to the need — using a term loan to plug a short-term cash gap, or a costly cash advance for a long-term investment, simply wastes money.
Government schemes worth knowing
Before paying NBFC rates, check if you qualify for a subsidised government scheme. MUDRA loans offer up to ₹10 lakh to micro-enterprises with no collateral. CGTMSE provides a credit guarantee so banks lend up to ₹2 crore without collateral. Stand-Up India supports women and SC/ST entrepreneurs with loans from ₹10 lakh to ₹1 crore. These typically carry far lower rates than fintech lenders — ask your bank which you are eligible for.
How much can you realistically borrow?
Lenders size the loan to your turnover and repayment capacity, not your wish list. As a rule of thumb, expect a sanction of 10–25% of your annual turnover for an unsecured loan. A business turning over ₹1 crore a year might get ₹10–25 lakh. Strong GST filings, healthy bank balances and a clean owner CIBIL push you to the top of that range.
Use the loan wisely
Borrow for things that generate a return — inventory you will sell, equipment that raises output, marketing that brings customers — not for covering chronic losses. Map out how the loan will be repaid from the cash flow it creates before you sign. A loan that funds growth pays for itself; one that funds a leaky business only deepens the hole.
What hurts your approval the most
Three things sink applications: bounced cheques or EMI defaults in the last 12 months, a personal CIBIL below 700, and inconsistent GST filings. Fix these before applying — a few months of clean banking behaviour can be the difference between a rejection and a low-rate sanction.
The bottom line
Unsecured business loans are faster and easier than ever, but speed has a price — always convert “per month” rates to APR, check for a government scheme first, and borrow only what your cash flow can comfortably repay. Apply where you already bank for the best odds and rates.
Prepare before you apply
The single biggest lever on both approval and rate is preparation. Lenders reward businesses that look organised and predictable, so spend a fortnight getting your house in order before you apply. File any pending GST returns, reconcile your current account so closing balances look healthy rather than scraping zero at month-end, and keep at least six months of clean statements with no cheque bounces. Pull your own commercial and personal credit reports and fix any errors. Prepare a one-page note explaining what the loan is for and how it will be repaid from the cash flow it generates — many relationship managers will champion a well-presented case internally. Businesses that walk in with complete, consistent paperwork routinely get sanctioned faster and at rates a full percentage point or two below those offered to a disorganised applicant with identical financials, simply because they look like a lower risk.
Secured options can be far cheaper
If speed is not critical, remember that a secured business loan — against property, fixed deposits or machinery — can cost several percentage points less than an unsecured one, because the lender’s risk is covered. For a large, planned investment where you can wait a couple of extra weeks, pledging an asset you already own can save lakhs in interest over the loan’s life. Reserve the fast, unsecured route for genuine working-capital crunches where the speed itself is worth the premium.
